If you look at what the abbreviation C V stands for – ‘curriculum
vitae’, the Latin for ‘the course of a life’ – or if you think of the
alternative word ‘résumé’ that is popular in the States, the
whole document could sound rather old-fashioned, even quaint,
and unsuited for the demands of the twenty-first century. You
couldn’t be further from the truth.
When you are looking for a holiday, what makes you choose
a particular destination, resort, hotel or villa over an equally
good alternative? You usually know as soon as you find one
that o≠ers not only what you need, but then something extra.
An employer or recruiter is looking for exactly the same thing.
Writing a winning C V is all about creating one that – everything
else being equal – gives you an advantage.
The C V is still the most e≤cient and e≠ective way of putting
yourself in the frame for a job. But as with everything in this
book, that in itself is not enough. There is a way of using
