one individual. One human being cannot possess all of those
attributes.
Essentially we used to have a model of an investment
manager that was the same as everybody else’s: he goes out,
finds a deal, originates the deal, does the due diligence, handles
the commercials, the negotiations, closes the deal, and then sits
on the board. We have broken that job into four roles now. We
don’t believe that one person is ever going to be good at every
one of those components. By going against the grain, by going
out on a limb, it has paid dividends.
The jc twist
When you are a candidate sitting in front of the employer,
the fact that you don’t have the perfect C V doesn’t mean
you can’t do the job. There is no such thing as the perfect
candidate. As long as you display your experience to its best
advantage and match it as carefully as you can to the needs
of the job, you have done as much as you can in advance. On
the day it could be that extra flash of passion that makes all
the di≠erence.
