With the information gleaned from the site you can go direct
to the employer, and post your C V on to their job board. At
Hamilton Bradshaw we have a Careers section on our site, and
I would say that fifty per cent of the people we hire have come
directly from our own website. I know that figure is slightly
skewed because I have become something of a brand name,
which brings a higher level of tra≤c to the Hamilton Bradshaw
site. But the principle is the same, and an indication of how
things will continue to evolve.
The beauty of the internet is also that it is global, it tran-
scends frontiers. So, if you want a job in America, and you are
looking for recruitment agencies in the States that specialize in
your sector, or the top ten employers in Chicago, or job boards
which specialize in your particular sector, you can find them on
the net.
Take advantage of the networks that exist online. Add
yourself to a business and professional listing like LinkedIn or set
yourself up on Twitter. You can join recruitment discussions via
social networking sites. There are websites aimed at bringing
soon-to-be graduates into contact with major brands. The
opportunities for sourcing job openings proliferate monthly.
There are job sections within general classified ad sites. Jobs are
increasingly being advertised as bite-sized tweets with a link
you can follow up for more information. Online companies you
already have a link with are sending email shots listing career
opportunities.
Here’s a second word of warning: there is so much informa-
tion available, that you could easily spend all day every day
