P. 42

How can you be proactive
             in sourcing a job?

As you start your search for the job you really want, you should

follow a classic business maxim: find a need and fill it. On one
episode of Dragons’ Den Peter Moule, who was running his
family’s electrical engineering business, pitched us a product

called the Chocbox, which in essence made connecting electrical
cables a doddle. There was an immediate bidding war because
we all saw that electricians needed this product to save them
fretting over health and safety regulations. The Chocbox filled
the need. As soon as that became obvious, it was a question of

who would end up giving Peter the investment, not if anybody
             would.
When you are looking for a job, the same principle applies.

Channel your e≠orts by targeting those companies that are going
to want to give you a job. Fill their need. Winning an interview is
all about sending your C V to a company that fits you and which
you fit too. Let’s cut out anything which feeds negativity. Getting
that interview will give you all the positive energy you need.

Finding the right company with the right job for you

The job market is more fluid than it has ever been. Statistically

more people change jobs and companies than they have ever
done before – it’s what’s called ‘churn’ in the business. This is
partly due to the volatility caused by the recession, but it also
reflects the fact that people have recognized that when they
