our faith had allowed me to say goodbye in a way that enabled me
to look to a future without him. I would continue to miss him, but
I was no longer mourning.
I have lots of Christian friends who say that for them mourning
is all about the stiff upper lip, with no expression or emotion. I
believe it’s so important to let the grief out, otherwise I can
imagine you could walk around with it for years. I think the
Islamic rituals surrounding death take you through a journey of
saying goodbye that allows you to move on.
