is that? Is it your status, your position? At what point will you
qualify for it?
If the job requires a significant amount of travel, will
you be flying business or economy? What is the company’s
policy on that? What’s their position on the time you spend
away from home – how does that work? The clearer the
position is when you start, the less room there will be later for
misunderstanding.
I would go down this route first, because it’s free, and
maybe at that point you don’t need a lawyer, if you’re comfort-
able and feel everything has been carefully explained.
And to be honest, if it was my company, I would respect
you if I heard from the HR team that you had done that. It
shows me you pay attention to detail, that you are no fool,
that you do not sign just anything that’s sent to you, that
you’re professional.
Depending on how senior the position is, I think you could,
and beyond a certain level should, seek some measure of
professional advice. But even then, it doesn’t have to be very
expensive. If you go on to the internet, there are plenty of
lawyers and service agencies who o≠er employment advice.
Remember, once you have signed the contract, you will be
bound by it. You have accepted those terms. You won’t get a
second chance.
