The interview is not about what is happening on one
particular day. You could be working for me for five years. You
could be here for ten years. This is actually quite a big decision
for me as the employer. I have to work out whether you will
fit into our environment. How does the interviewer evaluate

             that?
And how do you, the interviewee, communicate that? By
being yourself, by being somebody who is warm, by being

friendly, by opening up, by giving the impression that you are
approachable. If I come away with the impression that you are
too sti≠, that you are not somebody who is going to gel in my
team, that worries me. I have to create a happy environment.
There is a culture in this organization. Do you fit into that?

             identifying with the company

             culture

The culture of an organization is one aspect of a company
that is very di≤cult to glean from even the most comprehensive
website. It doesn’t translate easily into words and images. It

             hovers just beneath the surface.
I believe that organizations, especially under pressure in a
di≤cult economic climate, often forget that the workplace is

not just about somebody coming into work, doing their job,
making a contribution, getting paid. That is not the reason sta≠
stay with a company. I find that company bosses talk a great
deal about ‘culture’ but don’t have any convincing answers
