6 · A Career in Recruitment
Being involved brought me closer to my family than I had been
since I left home, which made the wedding itself even more of a
celebration.
Of course, an even bigger event was the arrival of Nahid’s first
child, my parents’first grandchild. As a family we love kids, and
whenever Nahid and her son came over he was passed round
between us all evening, being tickled and talked to and played with
until he fell asleep.
By this stage I felt that the trauma of leaving home was behind
me. I had gone a long way to showing my father that I wasn’ta
complete waste of space, and even though I had stumbled on a
career in recruitment by chance, I had found something I was good
at. I had started to knuckle down and was beginning to earn good
money, and as the new decade approached I felt I was ready for
anything.
