A job interview, fun? Most people would sco≠ at the very
thought. But that’s because we are preprogrammed to think of
them as gruelling experiences. TV reality shows have done their
bit to give the impression that every job application should be
a fight to the death and a confidence-sapping experience. But
that’s not reality, that’s entertainment.
I want to encourage you to turn your preconceptions of
the job interview on their head. My inspirational mentor, Tom
O’Dwyer, who I worked for at the Reid Trevena recruitment
agency, had a real knack for showing candidates a dream, and
inspiring them. If you can get the interviewer to inspire you
with their plans for the company and the job they are o≠ering,
both of you will have a sense of enjoyment that can prove
infectious.
