Chapter 33
Into the Den
(2007–present)
‘ The first thing I did was check out the pile of money on the
table in front of me. Well, wouldn’t you? ’
n early 2007 my office took a call from a woman who works
I as a talent scout for TV companies. She’d been asked to find
someone to take part in a new format for a business show the BBC
was developing and wondered if I’d be interested. She told me I’d
been recommended to her by a mutual friend and, although I’d
never thought of going on TV before, I was curious to find out
more.
We had a really positive first meeting, and she asked if she could
come back again to film an interview with me so she could see how
I came across on camera. We got on so well that I completely
forgot about the camera and our interview was over in a flash.
After she’d left, I became so busy with other things that when she
called back a few weeks later I’d almost forgotten she’d ever been
in touch.
She told me that she’d shown the tape to the producers of the
new format, one of whom also worked on Dragons’ Den.
