As an investor, I have had to learn that not every deal succeeds.

The same is true of interviews. I would love to guarantee you
100 per cent success – and I think we can get close – but not
every interview will end with you getting the job. So, how do

you pick up the pieces and lift yourself back up if you do miss
out on a job?
I was recently contacted by a British-born man who
had returned to the UK after a number of years working in
Australia. He was motivated, he had been successful and had

plenty of experience, but he could not find work in the UK.
He told me that all the companies he was contacting were
frightened away by his foreign experience, and that apparently

they could not see how it was relevant to their UK needs. He
felt he was stuck, had run out of ideas on where to go next,
and asked for my advice.
‘You’re forgetting an important lesson,’ I told him. ‘Always
